会話で使えるかも！？中級フレーズ
「両側」
Dudley, who was so large his bottom drooped over either side of the kitchen chair, grinned and turned to Harry.

eitherには「どちらか一方」という意味だけでなく、「両方（＝both）」という意味もあるので文脈で判断する。どちらの意味でもeitherに続く名詞は単数形。
上の文章ではeitherは「両方」の意味で使われており、「ダドリーはとても大きくてお尻がキッチンチェアーの両側から垂れていた」という意味になる（「キッチンチェアーのどちらか一方から垂れていた」だと変）。ちなみにlargeの後にはthatが隠れている。
<例文>
"You can stand on either side of the room."
「部屋のどちら側に立っても良いよ」
（部屋の両側に立つことは不可能なので、「どちらか一方」と判断）
"There are big windows on either side of the corridor. "
「廊下の両側に大きな窓がある」
（「どちらか一方」だと文脈的に変なので、この場合は「両方」が自然）
